Ikari Shinji (Third Children)

   Ikari Shinji,a 14 year old boy,was destined to pilot Eva-01 ever since he was born.His father Gendou,Supreme Commander of NERV,apparently abandoned Shinji when he was still only a child.Shinji loathes piloting Eva-01 but sees it as a chance to get closer to Gendou in an attempt to close the rift between father and son.He lacks self-confidence in the earlier episodes but later gained it through many battles with the Angels and through time,his life changes..........drastically.

Asuka Soryuu Langley (Second Children)

    Asuka Soryuu Langley,14 years old and a child prodigy,graduated from college in Germany and was later assigned to pilot Eva-02 in the same year.Being 3/4 German and 1/4 Japanese,she can speak both languages fluently.Considered quite pretty for a 14 year old,Asuka has a great bodyline and is being constantly wooed by many of her fellow students. Unfortunately,that is only the surface.Underneath that disguise lies a violent tempered girl with as much arrogance as her beauty.Asuka thinks she is far more superior than Shinji,throwing tantrums whenever her 'arch enemy' does anything better than she.While Shinji finds piloting Eva-01 a burden,Asuka sees it as an opportunity to show the world how good she is.Like Shinji,she does not have a real mother.Her mother died when Asuka was very young.Her father remarried and she had a stepmother ever since.Through the story,Asuka learns that her abilities are not as good as that of Shinji and slowly she loses her confidence and her synchronization rate lowered drastically while Shinji gained in his.Langley finally lost her powers over controlling Eva-02 when the 15th Angel(Arael) pschologically attacked her.She never recovered from that blow.Very sad.

Rei Ayanami (First Children)

    Rei Ayanami is a mysterious 14 year old girl who doesn't seem to be able to show emotion.She lives alone in an appartment near a construction site.Rei has no friends at school and Shinji,seeing her alone always,thought to have a talk with her.It was with Shinji that Rei spoke to and he 'helped' her sprout her first signs of emotion,something which she has never done before.Prolonged contact with Shinji brought equally new and strange feelings to Rei.The only person Rei feels comfortable with is Gendou.During an experimental accident,Gendou opened a scorching hot pluglock door and scarred his own hand to see if she was alright inside.Since then,Rei treasured every moment when around Gendou and this apparently led to Shinji's jealousy.She is the pilot of Eva-00 and obeys Gendou's every word.There are many mysteries about this odd,yet beautiful looking girl.All mysteries of Rei are concluded in the movie 'End of Evangelion'.Be sure to watch it!
